Tired of Limited Communication?
Communication on the web is based on the written (or typed) word, the absence of body language makes it that much more difficult to get your message across. However, thanks to all of the technological advancements there has been an increase of socialization online. Some people forego the physical portion of interaction in order to come up with a more cost-efficient, convenient and intriguing virtual counterpart.
It is not necessary to go on a jaunt around the world just to garner a network of friends, the social networking areas are on the rise as well as thousands of message and discussion boards and gaming. Even forums can open the floodgates of different profiles, sort of like the United Nations of socializing.
The fact that there are many diverse cultures is one reason that trying to get the message across is vital but difficult. Smileys and emoticons are fairly universal; you do not always have to speak the language to be understood. It’s even easy to misinterpret someone in the same room so not being able to see someone’s body language makes it that much more difficult to communicate.
A language barrier can be a challenge; as words may not always be enough to relate exactly what is intended. These smileys and emoticons are really great and they are helpful to get the point across when face to face is not possible. The next time you are reading someone’s email and forming a response, consider the different meanings and activities that are available to help you respond. They can also shorten the message as you will not have to explain each word or thought; you can insert a smiley to help you out.
Smileys have evolved from simple textual images to becoming different characters with almost unlimited expressions for you to use. Communicating with smileys is simple, but keep in mind that if you do not know the person very well you may want to hold off inserting one until you know them better or if they use one in their correspondence to you.
Emoticons and smileys serve as accessories to enhance your correspondence and as an aide to help you express your words, feelings and thoughts. Expressing yourself face to face can be tough enough at times, but when you are trying to get a point or idea across using only written words every bit of help you can get is important. Use those smileys wisely.
