Smileys Have Come of Age

If you were to go through several cell phone text messages, instant messaging chats, message boards and email correspondence there is a good bet that they all will have at least one thing in common and that is smileys or emoticons. That is probably because it is one of the best and easiest ways to convey emotions online.

The popularity of these emoticons and smileys continues to grow and there has been a tremendous amount of improvements to them. Of course there are the basics that express happiness with a smile or sadness with a frown; but now there are thousands of these smileys and emoticons that represent so much more than a smile or a frown.

There are smileys that depict pretty much all movements or events in a human’s life and express their emotions as well. And, it is no longer only human models that are used there are great animal smileys available. Not only do they look like a dog but they are also animated to provide the same actions a real dog might. They have emoticons of dogs fetching the paper, barking and many other definite dog actions, some are very clever. The same goes for a cat; they can climb trees, play with yarn and even drink milk from a saucer. There are smileys of frogs sitting on a lily pad and even hopping around catching flies with its tongue.

Emoticons can be animated to perform so many different actions other than smiling and frowning. These smileys can play musical instruments and for the sport aficionados they can play basketball, soccer, baseball or be a fan watching a sport and rooting for the home team. The holiday smileys are very popular, after all everyone likes to see Santa come down the chimney or driving his sleigh with Rudolph in the lead.

There are even smileys for the sentimental user that shows them giving flowers to their girls, proposing and getting married. No one can resist those cute emoticons of babies drinking from a bottle, Easter egg hunting or just sitting there looking angelic.

Now that you know some of what is available you should really check some out; but be careful they can be addictive.
